Our
Story

Get to Know Us

Julian and I started our work together doing Cognitive Enhancement Therapy about 10 years ago. We have a great collaborative relationship. As a team we are very creative at finding ways to make recovery work for our clients and while some of our skills overlap, we both bring a unique perspective that balances each other out.

Lately we have been working together on a team with young adults who have had their first episode of psychosis and have a lot of experience in this specialty.

Erin McGrath

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP)

I have been working with and learning from people who have psychotic experiences for the past 20 years. For the past 5 years I have been helping to develop a team that focuses on the early treatment of psychosis in young adults.

I love the work I do. I feel so fortunate to have had the professional opportunities that have led me to here.

I am creative and energetic and I bring that to my work. The myriad recovery trajectories of my clients necessitate an ever-evolving idea base to draw from which requires passion, interest and compassion.

Julian Seyal

Recovery Coach

I bring 10 years of mental health experience in the Kansas City community, combining evidence-based strategies with a focus on Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CTR). My coaching supports each young person in reconnecting with their values and strengths while addressing the real-life impacts of early psychosis.

Services include support to:
• Reconnect with school, work, family, and community roles
• Build insight, resilience, and long-term wellness
• Improve emotional flexibility, empathy, and executive functioning
• Strengthen the adaptive mode after a psychotic episode
• Access community resources, health benefits, and disability supports

Captain Carl has been working for the past 2.5 years to bring joy to the lives of others. He enjoys chasing balls, keep away, belly scratches, paddle boarding, and protecting his family from squirrels and people walking their dog (on his sidewalk!).

When he is not working he is asleep.
